The children created a self-portrait based on observation and personal experience. One half showed their facial features, while the other half used drawings, symbols, patterns and details to represent their interests, hobbies, extracurricular activities and aspects of their lives. They experimented with line, shape, pattern and detail before cutting out their completed portraits and mounting them on coloured paper. The children looked at and discussed their finished work and the different ways each person represented themselves.

The children created self-portrait relief prints using Styrofoam printing plates. They first drew their portrait into the Styrofoam, concentrating on line, shape and facial features. Paint was rolled onto the surface and paper was pressed onto the plate to transfer the image and create the print. The children explored how lines, shapes, texture, and negative space could create an image through printmaking, and they looked at and discussed the results of the printing process.
