Fire Safety Talk 26.03.26
The boys and girls of 2nd class and 3rd class had a visit from Oldcastle Fire Brigade who spoke with the whole class about Fire Safety in the home.

SESE- Geography (06.03.26)
2nd class & 3rd class worked in groups to learn about various European Countries, create a poster about their country, and present it to the class.
World Book Day, 05.03.26
On Thursday, 05.03.26, our school celebrated World Book Day. As Part of our celebrations, we had a small parade where each class took turns visiting each classroom to showcase their costumes and the books that inspired them.
The boys and girls also created the books cover of their favourite book. They also got to experience a webinar during that week.

2nd class & 3rd class learnt about George Seurat and Pointillism
Science Week
2nd and 3rd classes were very busy during Science week this year and had great fun trying out new experiments.
First, we investigated our sense of taste by testing it without the senses of smell or sight. While blindfolded and holding our noses, one we tasted either a potato or an apple and had to decide which we had. We all did very well.
We also made a bouncy egg!! We investigated the chemical reactions and effects of acids on materials. We put a raw egg into vinegar and left it there for 72 hours. The acid in the vinegar made the shell soft, and we managed to bounce our egg!!
We studied the Wright Brothers and discovered that they flew the first powered, sustained, and controlled aeroplane in December 1903. We made paper aeroplanes, and in our hall, we had a competition to see whose aeroplane would fly the furthest.
Outside on the final day of science week, we explored what happens when we place Mentos into a bottle of Diet Coke. We saw a physical reaction that caused a large eruption of the coke.

23.10.26: A Visit from a Hurler!
We had a visit from Moylagh GAA chairperson, Joe Melia and Meath Hurler Darren O’Higgins, who came to school to show the kids the Cup the Kilskyre/ Moylagh Hurlers won in a very exciting final!
17.10.26- Maths Week: As part of Maths Week, 2nd and 3rd class participated in the Active School Walkway Activity in small groups and pairs. The objective was to find two numbers on each sign and add them together. This created an opportunity to add tens and units with renaming.

The pupils of 2nd and 3rd class enjoyed Jersey Day at the end of September, with the kids showing strong support

World Book Day 2022
The pupils of 1st and 2nd Class out did themselves with their creativity and costume designs for World Book Day!
Everyone dressed up as their favourite character from their favourite book on 11th March to celebrate World Book Day and the Scholastic Book Fair visiting our school.
Well done to the parents too, who helped make the costumes!
Shape Robots
We were learning about 2D ad 3D shapes in maths.
The children then made 2D shape robots/people using a variety of 2D shapes.
Spring Flower Artwork
Spring has sprung in 1st & 2nd Class. We are learning about Spring flowers. The children identified various spring flowers.
Daffodils and tulips are their favourites, so they created a colourful art display of these.
Our Solar System
We are learning about the solar system in SESE. The children really enjoyed learning about all the planets.
