Our School Year 2022/ 2023
Topic- Airport
During the month of June, the topic in Junior and Senior Infants was the Airport. To complete the topic, the children ‘took a flight’. They went to the check in desk, went through security, got on their flight, watched some inflight entertainment while enjoying some light refreshments!

Maths- Capacity
With Ms Mulvaney the children investigated the concept of capacity. They compared and ordered containers according to capacity.

Signs of Summer!
At the beginning of June, Junior and Senior Infants went on a walk around the school grounds, looking for signs of summer using their tick sheet, drawing their own signs of summer also.

Pride of Place: May 2023
Junior and Senior Infants went on a wild flower hunt. We counted how many daises, dandelions and clovers were in small areas in the grass. After that we helped out the dandelions by blowing the seeds

As part of our topic, The Emergency Services, we received a visit from Garda Gerry. Garda Gerry let us try on the Garda hat. He passed around the handcuffs to everyone. We gave us colouring pages to colour. He kindly gifted us Garda bags. We waved him off with the sirens blaring!!

When we returned in April after the Easter Holidays we began learning about a new topic, The Emergency Services. In our art lesson, the children mixed red and yellow to create a fiery background. They created a fire engine and glued it to the page.

Happy Easter 2023!

Maths– We are learning directional language- left and right, forward and backwords. We used the beebots to help us learn about directions!

Pancake Tuesday/ Shrove Tuesday
In the morning, the children completed a cutting and sticking activity, pasting various toppings on their pancake pictures. In the afternoon, the children decorated their pancakes with toppings (honey, marshmallows, sprinkles) and ate them before home time. We chatted a little about what happens in other countries on Pancake Tuesday.
November 2022:
Fine Motor Skills
Every morning, upon arriving to school, Junior and Senior Infants engage in ‘funky fingers’ activities. It gives them an opportunity to revisit a concept previously covered, practise their writing and/or scissor cutting skills while focusing on the current topic!
September 2022:
The Colour Monster
by Anna Llenas
In September, Senior Infants read the story, The Colour Monster. One day, Colour Monster wakes up with his emotions are all over the place; he feels angry, happy, calm, sad and scared all at once! To help him, a little girl shows him what each feeling means through colour. After reading the story, Senior Infants created their own colour monsters.
Our School Year 2021/2022
Garden Centre – March 2022
During the month of March, our topic was the Garden Centre. During this time the children planted seeds. In these pictures, the children planted grass seeds. First decorating the cups, placing the soil and seeds on top and finally watering them. They happily took them home before the Easter Holidays.
SESE – Winter Theme
During the month of December 2021 the students in Junior and Senior infants created pieces of art based on the SESE topic of Winter.
- Evergreen trees using chalk on black paper;
- Designed and decorated mittens;
- Dressed a bear for Winter using fabric;
- Created their own advent wreaths.
Some examples of all their great works of Winter Art can be seen here.
Shape Hunt
This week (29/11/2021) we were learning about 3D shapes. We went on a shape hunt around the school, with our clip boards and tick sheets on the look out for cubes, cuboids, spheres, cylinders and cones.
We also investigated shapes and their properties, to discover shapes that roll and shapes that cannot roll!
School Year 2020 – 2021
Science Week 2020/21:
Junior and Senior Infants were busy doing a Skittles Experiment for Science Week!
We learned that the shells of skittles are made of sugar.
When the sugar was put in warm water, it dissolved.
This caused the colours to mix and create new colours. We had lots of fun 🙂
